Why Geothermal?

On paper, Morocco is "sunny," so the logic follows: why spend millions on geothermal deep-wells if the sun is already doing the work?

But here is the reality: The Moroccan sun is an asset, but it is not a "thermostat." If you want to move from being a "farmer" to an industrial producer, geothermal is not just a luxury—it’s your unfair advantage. Here is why it’s necessary for a world-class RAS setup in the Oriental region

The Verdict

Is it possible to do RAS in Morocco without geothermal? Yes Is it profitable at an industrial scale that attracts global investors? Probably not

Without the heat, you are just another farm at the mercy of the weather. With geothermal, you are a climate-controlled factory.

The "FCR" Math (Feed Conversion Ratio)

Fish and shrimp are cold-blooded. When water temperature fluctuates by even 2°C–3°C between day and night, their metabolism gets stressed.

  • Stress means they burn energy just to stay alive rather than putting on weight.

  • Geothermal provides thermal stability. A stable temperature means a better FCR. If your tenants spend less on feed to get the same weight of fish because the temperature never moved, you have just saved them millions in OpEx.

Energy Costs in Morocco

Heating a massive RAS facility with electricity or gas in Morocco is an economic suicide mission.

  • Morocco’s electricity prices are not the cheapest in the region.

  • If a tenant tries to heat a 5,000 m³ tank using the grid during a cold snap, their profit margin evaporates instantly.

  • By offering "Free Heat" (as part of the rent), you are shielding them from energy price volatility. That is a massive selling point for a CEO in Norway or Thailand looking to move to Morocco.

The "Virgin Water" Factor

Geothermal isn't just about heat; it's about source quality.

  • Deep-well geothermal water is biosecure. It hasn't seen the surface in thousands of years. It has no parasites, no agricultural runoff, and no viruses.

  • In RAS, water quality is everything. Starting with sterile, warm water is a huge "security blanket" for tenants who are terrified of losing $10M worth of stock to a disease outbreak.

The Market Window

The best time to sell fresh shrimp or high-end fish to Europe is in the middle of winter when Mediterranean sea-cages are dormant and supply is low.

  • Because you have geothermal, you are one of the few producers who can guarantee peak-summer volumes in January. You own the market when prices are highest.
